Position Summary

The digital marketing manager is an expert of web production and digital marketing. This person supports the content marketing team through building web pages, managing email marketing programs and integrating paid media onto This person is at home working in a website content management system, communicates constantly, understands messaging to any audience, is well-organized and approaches their work analytically. As a digital marketer, this person must be passionate about organic and paid search, website and email performance and optimization, content marketing strategy and most of all, promoting Washington, DC as a travel destination. Success will be defined by how well this individual helps contribute to the marketing and communications team’s goals, specifically achieving pageviews and unique visitors KPIs. The marketer must also strategize and execute ways to improve site engagement, increase email open rates and support member and partner businesses. The individual will work closely with the content manager and associate director of content marketing to maintain, grow and improve Destination DC’s digital marketing efforts.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to)

  • Creates, updates and improves web pages across all Destination DC web properties using content management system, HTML/CSS and other technologies
  • Assists in the planning and building of web content, microsites and other web-based projects
  • Manages SEO strategy for, constantly updating existing content and sourcing new content opportunities
  • Builds and manages paid search engine marketing campaigns
  • Monitors websites to ensure content remains fresh and engaging; identifies missing or outdated information and areas of improvement
  • Supports content marketing strategy that aligns with multi-channel advertising campaigns
  • Interfaces with digital marketing agencies to coordinate web projects
  • Monitors user behavior and traffic flows on web properties to ensure an engaging user experience
  • Explores and implements new technologies on digital properties that enhance the user experience and achieve company objectives
  • Functions as content and web liaison between departments
  • Oversees DDC’s external email communications calendar
  • Actively seeks ways to improve email communications based on member and internal feedback
  • Works with creative project manager to streamline the production and distribution of email communications
  • Reviews and analyzes metrics to drive changes in email communication strategy
  • Monitors email marketing trends and best practices; educates others in best practices
  • Trains key support staff in the use of CMS and email marketing systems
  • Sources approved user-generated content via CrowdRiff for marketing use
  • Serves as an expert of the city by developing comprehensive knowledge of DC from dining, hotels and attractions to culture, history and entertainment.

Experience, Competencies & Education

  • A minimum of four years’ experience in digital marketing with a focus on digital content production
  • Four-year degree from an academic institution in marketing or relevant field
  • Mastery of website content management systems (e.g., Drupal, Wordpress,)
  • Mastery of email marketing software (e.g., Act-On, Cvent, Marketo, MailChimp)
  • Mastery of organic search and experience in paid search preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written and proofreading skills. Strong writing style and voice.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, providing great attention to detail in all work products
  • Experience with building and editing content using HTML required, CSS experience a plus
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Google Ads (or similar software, such as Adobe suite of products) preferred
  • Experience with Moz or similar SEO software (Ahrefs, SEMrush, etc.) preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and familiarity with the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Experience writing for consumer- and travel-focused websites a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, attention to detail
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work under pressure
  • Ability to combine creativity with strategic thinking and effective project management
  • Hospitality experience a plus
  • The position requires that the applicant be vaccinated for COVID-19
