Haven of Hope, a day shelter for unhoused individuals, is currently seeking a full-time Development Director to build a progressive development initiative in a dynamically expanding non-profit agency. The ideal person will be enthusiastic, extremely well organized, and passionate about working with the unhoused population of Colorado.

The Director of Development’s primary role is to drive revenue growth by identifying connections and cultivating relationships, creating innovative campaigns to engage donors. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Development will work closely with the key leadership to develop and execute campaigns aligned with HOH’s mission, vision, and core values. The ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, moving multiple projects forward, utilizing high-level strategic thinking and hands-on implementation is critical. The ideal candidate will excel in raising enough revenue to meet our organization’s financial goals, and able to forecast future income as well. The ability to work closely with public relations professionals to attract attention from potential supporters will be a necessary skill we look for.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Sustainable Development
    • Create a strategic revenue growth plan annually with new prospects, inclusive of foundation/corporate/institutional partners, sponsors, individual donors, and new assets/initiatives, and actively seek and develop opportunities.
    • Monitor financial expenditures and progress against budgetary plan and respond appropriately to meet top and bottom-line development goals, ensuring a high ROI in meeting revenue targets.
    • Effectively utilize HOH’s technology platforms (Salesforce, etc.) in support donor relationship management, marketing, communications, and growth.
    • Collaborate with Event/Marketing Coordinator in production of all media collateral associated with development efforts.
    • Collaborate with Event/Marketing Coordinator on sponsorship/attendance sales for all fundraising events.
    • Bring practical insight and best-practice strategy to the work of the Board of Directors in revenue generation and serve as a resource to Directors who engage in prospect/donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
    • Provide timely and accurate reporting to HOH’s Executive Director, Board of Directors, and supporters to ensure transparency of development efforts.
  • Major Gifts
    • Be an active, bold and effective networker to strengthen corporate, foundation, high-wealth individual and commercial relationships.
    • Develop and implement strategic plans and best practices for revenue growth, driving and encouraging creativity and innovation.
    • Work with Advisors and Directors to identify potential new donors and reach out to ask for support with their assistance.
    • Implement all fundraising aspects of Blackbaud to ensure strength of data analysis to drive revenue growth.
  • Grants
    • Collaborate and assist current grant writer, (contractor), in writing of all grant applications to include searching out new grant opportunities.
      • Insure accuracy of grant applications prior to submission.
    • Provide monthly and accurate reporting to HOH’s Executive Director and Board of Directors on all grant activities and results.
    • Collaborate with grant writer annually on strategic goals for grant revenue.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 5 yrs. of documentable fundraising experience
  • Marketing experience/skill a plus
  • Development strategies
  • Management of leadership experience preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills needed
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of grant writing
  • Advanced experience with CRM’s (Blackbaud preferred)

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nonprofit Administration, Business Administration, Communications or similar field
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive Certification preferred
