Job Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Strategic Marketing Manager is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that advances Pogo’s mission, strengthens community visibility, and positions Pogo as a trusted and visible leader in community health and collaboration, translating Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) priorities into compelling stories that drive engagement. As the action arm of the Avedis Foundation, Pogo translates the Foundation’s commitment to collaboratively improving health and quality of life in Pottawatomie County into visible community action. This role is responsible for brand management, media relations, digital strategy, design and creative content development to ensure Pogo’s work is clearly and consistently represented to partners, funders, and the public.
The Senior Strategic Marketing Manager serves as both a strategic advisor and hands-on practitioner, amplifying Pogo’s impact through storytelling, campaigns, and reputation management. The role collaborates closely with the entire Pogo team in the execution of our strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
- Develop and implement an annual communications plan aligned with organizational strategy and CHIP priorities.
- Serve as a communications advisor and secondary spokesperson to the Executive Director, identifying opportunities and risks.
- Establish consistent messaging frameworks for staff, committees, and board leaders.
- Ensure all marketing channels are fully utilized to promote organizational visibility, partnerships, community efforts and CHIP priorities.
- Communicate with target audiences through newsletters, press releases, editorials, speaking engagements, and events.
- Provide secondary staff support for the Pogo Engagement Committee.
Brand & Storytelling
- Manage Pogo’s brand identity across platforms, collateral, and events.
- Lead the creation of stories that translate data and community outcomes into compelling, accessible narratives.
- Oversee and contribute to creative design of materials using accessible tools, ensuring high-quality production while balancing in-house design with consultant support.
- Develop and implement storytelling strategies that highlight community partners, participant voices, and the collective impact of Pogo’s work.
Creative Design & Content Management
- Oversee the design and production of print and digital collateral, ensuring materials align with brand standards and messaging frameworks.
- Manage creative workflows, editorial calendars, and content libraries to support timely and cohesive communication.
- Supervise consultants and contractors to ensure accountability, quality, and alignment with project objectives.
Digital Strategy & Analytics
- Manage all digital platforms including WIX, social media, newsletters, campaigns, and web development.
- Ensure consistent and engaging presence on LinkedIn and organizational blogs to highlight thought leadership and partner collaboration.
- Use analytics tools such as Google Analytics, social metrics, and SEO to evaluate reach and engagement, adjusting strategies based on data insights.
- Develop communication dashboards for leadership and funders demonstrating ROI, engagement, and reach.
Media & Community Relations
- Cultivate relationships with local, state, and regional media outlets in collaboration with the Executive Director and Avedis Foundation CEO.
- Draft and distribute press releases, manage media inquiries, and prepare spokespeople for interviews.
- Coordinate storytelling opportunities with partners and media outlets to amplify Pogo’s visibility and impact.
- Partner with community organizations to co-create campaigns and joint messaging that expand reach and deepen engagement.
Other Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to maintain alignment and reduce duplication across projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field required
- 5–7 years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or public relations (nonprofit, community health, or public sector experience preferred).
- Proven track record of leading campaigns that expanded visibility, engagement, or brand reputation.
- Strong technical skills including social media strategy, Google Analytics, CRM/email marketing, and Canva, Adobe Suite or equivalent.
- Exceptional written and verbal skills.
- Experience managing contractors, vendors, or consultants with accountability for deliverables.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.; Must be able to attend meetings and events throughout the community. Must have reliable transportation.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in nonprofit or public health settings
- Master’s degree in related field.
- Nonprofit, community health, or public sector experience.
- Experienced presentation skills.
- Understanding of community wellbeing, built environment and health promotion messaging and campaigns.
