The Office of Advancement within The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) and Wexner Medical Center supports the priorities of The Ohio State University’s academic medical center program through strategic fundraising, stewardship, signature events and community partner programming. The primary function of the development communications Marketing Manager is to perform duties and responsibilities for the Office of Advancement’s Development Communications team in managing strategic and tactical implementation of projects in cooperation with the Wexner Medical Center and OSUCCC – James Marketing Department.

In collaboration with the Wexner Medical Center and James Marketing team, the Marketing Manager leads strategic development communications for all OSUCCC – James philanthropic communications pieces. Examples include but are not limited to; marketing collateral, digital marketing, social media, event invitations, community partner promotional material, stewardship and impact engagement and communications, and emerging development initiatives collateral as needed.

The Marketing Manager will be responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with members of various teams including the OSUCCC – James, Wexner Medical Center and University marketing, development and creative services teams, as well as external vendors and key community partners. They will be responsible for managing and creating development collateral maintaining the James, Wexner Medical Center, and University brands.

This position reports to the Director of Development Communications and is expected to project manage the implementation of assigned work, including graphic and digital content creation, have the ability to prioritize, foster comprehensive review processes, monitor KPIs, and help provide creative solutions to serve the needs of our philanthropic audiences. This position is responsible for managing external and promotional email communications (utilizing HTML and University email tools), coordinating development messaging on social media platforms and maintaining development content on dedicated web pages.

The Marketing Manager is expected to understand digital strategy and have strong project management, writing, leadership and interpersonal coordination skills, strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving ability; and be highly motivated with the ability to thrive in a fluid and changing environment; They will serve as a strategic expert on OSUCCC – James development communications, and be responsible for creating content, execution of print and digital communications, web updates and social media support. This position includes the direct supervision of one FTE – the Multi-media Coordinate responsible for community partner and emerging event marketing initiatives.

  • Leads efforts for OSUCCC-James philanthropic marketing collateral; develops communication plans, serves as project manager for all deliverables, navigates approval processes; creates graphic and digital content and writing copy in partnership with development communications writers. Serves as a strategic expert on OSUCCC-James marketing alongside the Marketing Consultant, James Development, responsible for personally creating or assigning projects to team members and managing their work.
  • Manages external and promotional email communications; leads digital marketing efforts related to development, maintain email schedule, builds and deploys HTML emails, maintains current web content for dedicated development pages.
  • Partners with Donor Experience team to proactively determine donor and fund impact and identify content and communication channels.
  • Management of Multi-Media Coordinator; hires, trains, and supervises professional staff; establishes and monitors goals, provides performance feedback and coaching, and supports professional development; completes annual performance management procedures; develops procedures, assigns and prioritizes work, and ensures that the resources needed to accomplish work are provided.


  • Partners with Director of Development Communications on communications related to the fundraising campaign planning and execution and emerging development initiatives. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience
  • 3 years of professional experience utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite (including but not limited to InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Vimeo) to create and design a variety of print collateral and digital design
  • Strong project management skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Enterprise Email Provider, Workfront and/or Sitecore CMS
  • Professional experience utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite (including but not limited to InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Vimeo
  • 3+ years managing omni-channel digital programs and implementing a test-and-learn optimization strategy
  • 2-4 years management experience
  • 1 year management experience
  • Experience with marketing automation tools; analytically driven, including working knowledge of analytic tools

In accordance with the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17 this position has been designated as a standby position.

Additional Information:

Target Hiring Range: $49,800 - $66,400
